General Counsel


Job Description

We are seeking an in-house legal counsel to safeguard our interests and vision.  As a self-driven team player, you will identify risk and collaborate with internal/external lawyers in a non-traditional and ever-changing fintech business.  In this role, you’ll also work alongside with partners to better understand and address their business needs while staying true to our mission. You will operate at the cross-over among law, technology and innovative processes.  You will be working closely with our business/operation teams to expand and scale in new markets globally.  Collaborating with our business/research teams, you will be dealing with intellectual property laws to protect our interests in our inventions in cutting-edge technology.  You will provide support on legal, regulatory and commercial advice on daily business operations and general commercial and transactional matters, including drafting and reviewing of license/patent applications and regulatory responses in conjunction with compliance.


Responsibilities

Provide timely support on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues and questions raised by internal stakeholders.

Preparing and/or assisting with:

contract negotiations

applications for patents, licenses, and any other applications to government / regulatory authorities.

drafting, reviewing and/or advising on privacy issues, general terms and conditions, fraud prevention, labor law, security regulations, legal secretarial matters, confidentiality, conflicts, anti-bribery, anti-money laundering, data protection, and compliance-related matters.

drafting and/or reviewing contracts, letters, legal documents and other correspondence as and when required.

Manage any potential legal proceedings that may arise

Engage, liaise with and manage external counsels as the need arises.

Perform periodic risk-assessments for the region, monitor and provide information on the state of compliance.

Assess and advise on potential legal and regulatory implications and exposure in proposed projects and initiatives.

Advise management on legal aspects of strategic direction of business development.

Assist the business team in rolling out online materials and be responsible for ensuring that these are applicable and appropriate for the region, and answer compliance-related queries from team members.

Work closely with other departments and contribute legal input to ensure smooth implementation of business initiatives and policies.

Legal documents filing and administration.


Requirements

2- 5 years post qualification experience, ideally in financial regulatory and compliance, general corporate and commercial and/or technology practice areas. Other relevant practice areas will be considered too.

Bachelor or above degree in law, preferably from Singapore or the UK though other jurisdictions will be considered too.

Strong regulatory/compliance knowledge and skills, especially in relation to FINTECH business and the relevant licensing laws and regulations would be an asset.

Enjoy dealing with global issues relating to SME commercial lending.

Knowledge of smart contract and blockchain is an asset.

Highly motivated self-starter, eager learner and good team player with excellent project management skills.

Good analytical skills, able to grasp complex technological and legal concepts.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Good team player with the ability to build meaningful relationships with all stakeholders.
